Questions
What did you learn from the passage and the preach?
Paul holds out Timothy [2:19-24] and Epaphroditus as examples. What do they model to us? Who is our ultimate example [2:5-10]?
Paul’s life was also an example of radical humility [2:17]. Do you expect to share in Jesus’suffering? Is this the gospel you signed up for?
Paul, who is in prison in Rome, wants to send Timothy to Philippi [2:19,23]. Such a journey in the first century was long and dangerous. There are others with Paul but “they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ [2:21]”. What concerns hold you back from serving Jesus and the saints more fully?
The Philippians had sent Epaphroditus to Paul as their messenger [2:25b] but Paul is sending him back to Philippi [2:25a, 28]! Whose interests does Paul [cf 2:21]? Who does he honour [2:29]?
Epaphroditus served Jesus “near to the point of death, risking his life” [2:30]. How? Do you know of Christians who are willing to risk all to serve?
