What is the significance of YHWH killing the firstborn of the Egyptians? See Exodus 1 and Exodus 4:22-23.
God hardening Pharaoh’s heart raises some issues! What was the reason for this hardening according to Paul in Romans 9:17 where he quotes Exodus 9:16]
In ancient Egyptian religion their gods maintain ma’at or order. The Hebrew Bible begins [Genesis 1] with Israel’s God speaking order, purpose and meaning into a land that was formless and empty and the deep that was covered in darkness. What is meant by de-creation? How did the plagues humiliate the Egyptian gods, Pharoah as Horus incarnate and Pharaoh’s magicians[1]?
Each plague would have been deeply significant to ancient Egyptians. Which plagues can you remember the meaning of?
What are the gods of our world?
Read the passage again and note anything else that stands out or challenges you. Pray that the Holy Spirit would enable you to change and be more like Jesus and demonstrate the unity we have in him.
