Questions
What stood out or challenged you in the passage today?
God will accompany Moses with three signs. What are they? What might they symbolise?
Why does God become angry with Moses [v14]? How does this fit with YHWH being “slow to anger” [Exodus 34:6]?
First Melchizedek and Abraham. Now Moses and Jethro. Two priests who serve YHWH but are not Israelites. What is the plot clue?
What does God tell Moses he will do to Pharaoh [vv21-23 and Romans 9:3-4;17-18]? For many Paul’s statement in Romans 9:18 reads as if God randomly hardens some. How would you respond in light of the Exodus story that Paul is referencing?
Why is God angry with Moses again in v24? How does Zipporah, Moses’ wife, perform the function of a priest?
Read the passage again and note anything else that stands out or challenges you. Pray that the Holy Spirit would enable you to change and be more like Jesus and demonstrate the unity we have in him.
