What stood out or challenged you in the passage today?
What is the significance that Moses’ parents are Levites? What is God starting to do?
Read Hebrews 11:23. What do we learn about Moses’ parents? Can you think of other parents, and especially mothers, who were people of faith used by God to bring a man of faith into the world and God’s story of salvation?
Both Luke [Acts 7:20] and the writer to the Hebrews describe Moses as handsome, αστείος [which means funny in modern Greek!]. How does this contrast with modern ideas of beauty?
God’s compassion was made known through Pharaoh’s daughter. Are there times in your life you have experienced God’s love and compassion through other people? Give thanks to God.
Moses stands up for the oppressed whether Israelite [vv11-12] or Midianites [vv16, 17]. Do you think he was right to kill the Egyptian [v12]? Why? Read the passage again and note anything else that stands out or challenges you. Pray that the Holy Spirit would enable you to change and be more like Jesus and demonstrate the unity we have in him.
