Questions

1. What stood out or challenged you in the passage today?

2. Where did Moses first encounter YHWH/”the angel of YHWH” [Exodus 3]

3. Read Deuteronomy 32:1-43 [it is probably clearer in a more literal translation]. List the references to gods and other beings! What does this passage teach about YHWH/the LORD?

4. What does God hold out to Israel if only they will be obedient to his covenant vv5-6]? Is this salvation by works [Ephesians 2:8-9]?

5. What would it have meant to be a kingdom of priests [v6]? Does Israel succeed in this role? Who will step up to be the perfect Israelite, a priest to the nations? You might also want to look at 1 Peter 2:9-10.

6. What do the various ceremonial cleanings [washing clothes etc.] indicate about God and us?

7. Read the passage again and note anything else that stands out or challenges you. Pray that the Holy Spirit would enable you to change and be more like Jesus and demonstrate the unity we have in him.

and a single river flows out of the garden and then splits into four “heads.” This detail is actually quite explicit: Eden is the source of the rivers of the earth, and water flows downhill, which means clearly that Eden is atop a high place.
