Questions
This is our sixth week in Exodus 34:6-7. What stood out or challenged you in the passage today?
God is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger and abounding with loyal love [Exodus 34:6]. Why does he punish? Is suffering the punishment of God or the consequence of human sin? Does viewing the bible as a mosaic help us to begin to try and answer such questions?
Read Numbers 16. What was Korah’s sin? What was the consequence of his sin?
Did God bring about the flood because he was angry [see Genesis 6:1-8]? Which characteristic[s] of God [from Exodus 34:6] is evident here?
How are the flood, the earthquake that destroyed Korah’s family etc. decreation events? What does sin do to God’s order in creation?
Did Job suffer because of his sin? Did Daniel suffer exile in Babylon because of his sin? How does the “bible as a mosaic” help us not jump to simplistic conclusions?
Why did Jesus suffer? Why was Jerusalem destroyed in AD70? What happens if we continue to ignore God’s will despite his mercy, grace, slowness to anger, and abundant steadfast love and faithfulness toward us?
